Oh-So-Cute Thread Keeper

I've been searching for ways to reorganize my needlework supplies and make more effective use of space in my workroom. After a year of pulling materials and supplies and failing to put them back in their proper places, my workspace needs a bit of Spring Cleaning - and needs it badly.

Today I was doing a quick internet search for storage ideas, and came across this adorable thread keeper project by Haley Pierson-Cox of Brooklyn, New York.

Her cute, crafy idea will work with an assortment of embroidery fibers including embroidery floss, ribbon and sewing thread.

The project hides your thread while preventing tangling, and would look adorable sitting on a worktable. You can get the directions here!

Those are adorable but I can’t see where they would work for standard skeins of floss. I’d have to wind them on round spools of some kind first. And considering the hundreds of skeins of floss I have, that could take awhile.

But these adorable little boxes would be great for orts. Leftover threads and metallics would cling to the inside of the box and not drop out. And the decorated boxes are much cuter than my little glass dish that I use now.

It looks like the thread is wrapped on a standard bobbin first. I’m betting a ball of pearl cotton could be used the same way. I love these little treasures.
