Fabrics for Embroidery

This week my mailbox and email inbox has been besieged by catalogs for the annual January White Sales.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you. It's because one of my favorite things to stitch - sheets and pillowcases - are on sale and now's the time to stock up on this alternative form of embroidery fabric.

Looks like some new, customized bedding is on the horizon for my guest room...

Have you ever tried stitching on the bamboo fabric? I’ve seen sheets made from that fiber and they feel wonderful, smooth and soft but not completely limp. Just wonder how well a needle and thread works on that.

I haven’t stitched on the bamboo sheets, but I have used the bamboo floss. It’s lucious!!!! Wish it wasn’t so expensive…

Oh no – I’ve never heard of bamboo floss. Now I’m going to have to wait till my favorite LNS opens on Tuesday and ask them if they carry it. Hmm, Tues. I have grandson, Wed. I meet with friends for lunch. Ack! I can’t go shopping till Thursday.

When you say expensive, just how bad is it? I’ve paid over $3 for a skein of hand dyed floss. I don’t try to buy all the colors like I’ve done with DMC but a few fancies for fun I will do.
