Dolphins are highly intelligent mammals with highly developed senses of sight and hearing. These creatures, along with whales and porpoises, belong to a group of mammals called cetaceans. There are 36 species of dolphin, which can weigh up to 175 pounds and grow to a length of 7 to 8 feet. Orcas, another member of the species Cetacea, grow even larger, reaching 30 feet.
This free embroidery pattern features two versions of these friendly creatures frolicking in the sun. The first pattern is a border that can be used to stitch beach house accessories including pillow cases, lamp shades, table runners and place mats, or can be used as a repeat to create a long border strip on a sheet or tablecloth. The second pattern features a medallion motif that can be used to embellish a tote, beach blanket, a pillow front, or framed as art.
The image above shows a suggested colorway for working the design, but it would look equally pretty worked in Redwork or stitched using other colors. The patterns can be worked up quickly using basic embroidery stitches in embroidery floss or your favorite embroidery threads.
Stitch the designs on ready-made or pre-purchased items, or make your own accessories using your favorite embroidery fabric and pattern, stitching the designs after assembly.
General directions for marking the fabric and working the design, as well as the materials needed, can be found in the next step.
