Diagonal Laid Filling Stitch

To work the stitch diagonally, lay a groundwork of criss-crossing long stitches worked digonally, as shown here using the orange thread.

Next, work a single vertical stitch or upright cross stitch over each section along a row, as indicated by the green thread. These stitches hold the ground threads in place.

The diagonal laid filling was used in the free Fall Acorn Medallion embroidery project.
